Jack Kerouac's New Year's Resolutions
technicoloring:
Scribbled secret notebooks, and wild typewritten pages, for your own joy
Submissive to everything, open, listening
Try never get drunk outside your own house
Be in love with your life
Something that you feel will find its own form
Be crazy dumbsaint of the mind
Blow as deep as you want to blow
Write what you want bottomless from bottom of the mind
The unspeakable visions...

Sam Biddle: How the Hashtag is Ruining the English... →
This origin doesn’t matter anymore. Hashtags at their best stand in as what linguists call “paralanguage,” like shoulder shrugs and intonations. That’s fine. But at their most annoying, the colloquial hashtag has burst out of its use as a sorting tool and become a linguistic tumor—a tic more irritating than any banal link or lazy image meme. The hashtag is conceptually out...

"Quiet," by Dave Eggers (p. 85)
THE MOON: You are a lucky one, Tom, to have Erin and others like Erin.
TOM: Thank you. I feel blessed.
THE MOON: I often think of coming down to live among you, to make a big mess of it all. It always looks so messy, and I think I might like that.
TOM: It is messy, I guess.
THE MOON: It looks awfully messy. It looks almost impossible to survive, to tell you the truth. The pain of it all.
TOM: It's not all that painful.
THE MOON: But Tom -- the swinging of your pendulums! Everyone's pendulums swinging, to and fro, and always you're getting hit by someone else's swinging pendulum. You're minding your own business, but someone else's pendulum is swinging around, and pow! you get it in the head.
TOM: That happens, yes.
THE MOON: I saw you and Erin by the shed.
TOM: Oh.
THE MOON: I was there.
TOM: That makes sense. I saw you, too.
THE MOON: I watch you so often, Tom. I have time on my hands. Time is something different to me than it is to you. I feel time like you dream. Your dreams are jumbled. You can't remember the order of your dreams, and when you recall them, the memories bend. Faces change. It's all in puddles and ripples. That's what time is for me.

fifty-two minutes past dead midnight with the moon winking like a buzzing sea-sky chandelier, and I swear to god that this is the only time you still exist in silhouettes, in every dust-breath of the room and corner of the street where street-lamps can’t reach, in minutiae and creased plastic bags and dumpsters and cold cement. there goes that tick-tock again (BOOM). if smashing the faces of...

Anonymous asked: do you have a 4.0 gpa in college right now?
Anonymous asked: I've always had dreams of going into one of the top schools for college but now that sophomore year is halfway over, I'm so so scared because now I see that it's not possible. I've made mistakes, my grades aren't as good as i hoped they'd be and my happiness comes from volleyball: my favorite sport. I just wanted your advice, i guess I wanted to hear from someone that...
